What is Voices of Hope?

Voices of Hope is an annual social justice symposium hosted by students of Corpus Christi College for students in grades 11 and 12 or students enrolled in college and university programs, who are interested in social justice topics and leadership. Guided by the pillars of Catholic social teaching, this one-day event features a keynote presentation, outstanding student research and opportunities for networking with young adults and professionals of not-for-profit organizations who share concerns about the social, political, cultural, religious and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

“Mercy at the Margins: Care for Everyone in our Common Home”

SYMPOSIUM THEME

Voices of Hope is as an annual event hosted by students, for students.

This year, the theme is Mercy at the Margins: Care for Everyone in Our Common Home; drawing wisdom and guidance from Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Si, ‘Care for Everyone in our Common Home.’ In particular, this symposium calls to attention contemporary issues threatening individuals at all corners of the earth, and encourages all of humanity to respond with this underlying message:

“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices.
We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere, avoiding unfair criticism or defamation.
Families, schools, religious teaching and all forms of media have a role to play in achieving this goal.”

Further to this great commissioning, Voices of Hope will feature a keynote presentation from local professionals already working in this field and students of Corpus Christi College, who will address humanity’s responsibility to respond to: poverty; mental health; global warming, human trafficking and the power of grassroots movements.

Opportunities for peer-to-peer discussions and strategic planning will both inspire and call students to action in their own homes, schools, and community.
