JAPN 101: Japanese for Beginners I
This course is designed for students with little or no previous experience of Japanese. It is an introduction to modern oral (spoken) and written Japanese. Students will learn Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji (Chinese characters). They also learn basic grammar points and vocabulary to develop four basic language skills- listening, speaking, reading and writing. Japanese cultural components are also introduced. The course covers the first six lessons in the textbook GENKI Volume I.
JAPN 102: Japanese for Beginners II
This course emphasizes active command of Japanese, enhancing basic skills for listening, speaking, reading and writing. Student will be able to carry on a daily life conversation with Japanese speakers on topics of personal experience, interests, school life, vocation or travel plans. They learn additional 87 Kanji, read and write short passages. New grammar points, wide-ranging vocabulary and social culture components are also introduced.
This course is the continuation of Japanese for Beginners I (JAPN 101). It covers Lessons 7 through 12 in the textbook GENKI Volume I.
