Dr. Gerry Turcotte Receives Platinum Jubilee Medal for Service in Education

We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Gerry Turcotte, President and Principal of Corpus Christi and St. Mark’s College, on receiving the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his dedication and service in the field of adult education. Dr. Turcotte was presented with this award by Alberta’s Minister of Advanced Education in a special ceremony on January 27. He is one of 7,000 recipients in Alberta to receive this commemorative medal, which marks the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne and honours her service to Canada.

“I am honoured to have received this medal and recognition in Advance Education for service to the community and to higher education.” – Dr. Gerry Turcotte

Dr. Turcotte joined Corpus Christi and St. Mark’s College in August 2022 after serving as President and Vice-Chancellor of St. Mary’s University in Calgary for eleven years and, before this, Associate Provost and Executive Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Notre Dame in Australia.

He brings to our community a wealth of experience in growing university enrolment, securing funding, and leading strategic planning initiatives– and doing so with humility, a sense of humour, and genuine care and compassion for others. The Board and Senate of the Colleges are confident that Dr. Turcotte’s wisdom, leadership, and deep commitment to higher education will lead us into the next part of our story as a dynamic community of learning.

As a college community, together we extend heartfelt congratulations and are excited that Dr. Turcotte has received this prestigious and well-deserved award, and we look forward to working alongside him as he continues to make a positive impact on higher education here in British Columbia.
