Dr. Gordon Katic appointed as Inaugural Cullen Chair in Media and Communications

Corpus Christi College is thrilled to announce the selection of Dr. Gordon Katic as the inaugural holder of the Cullen Chair in Media and Communications. 

Dr. Katic is an award-winning journalist with over fifteen years of experience in audio, print, and digital news, and a strong background in scholarly research. He received a PhD in Social Justice Education from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He also holds a Master of Journalism and a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of British Columbia.

“I started my academic and journalistic career in Vancouver, so I could not be more excited to return home and give back to a community that has been so formative,” said. Dr. Katic. “As the Cullen Chair, I look forward to working with students, faculty, and also with other media leaders in the area. Together, we will develop many opportunities to enrich journalistic teaching and practice in Vancouver and beyond.”

As a scholar, Dr. Katic undertakes research focused on science, health, and environmental journalism, with a special focus on journalism in the post-truth era. He has taught courses at the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia and in the Faculty of Communication, Art, and Technology at Simon Fraser University.

He also brings a wealth of professional experience in the media industry. He is the founder and director of Cited Media, an acclaimed podcast production company that brings together scholars, students, journalists, and community groups to create research-informed journalism in the public interest. He has published, edited, hosted, and/or produced several hundred podcast episodes across more than twenty programs, including an investigative series that was recognized as the best legal podcast by the American Bar Association, and an educational podcast that won its category at the 2025 New York Festivals.

As the Cullen Chair, Dr. Katic looks forward to mentoring students interested in multiple career trajectories, helping them build a foundation to thrive in the evolving journalism industry.

We are similarly grateful to Mark and Barbara Cullen for establishing this new Chair, which promises to expand our already vibrant arts programming,” remarked Corpus Christi College President, Dr. Gerry Turcotte.
